A welcoming, community-led peer support network connecting adults with ADHD across Derbyshire.
Why I Created THE ADHD VILLAGE DERBYSHIRE
My name is Nick, and I created THE ADHD VILLAGE DERBYSHIRE from my own experience of living with undiagnosed ADHD.
I reached adulthood without understanding why so many things felt harder than they seemed to for other people. Alongside living with diabetes, the impact of my undiagnosed ADHD contributed to me becoming quite unwell. Like many adults who reach later life before understanding their ADHD, I had already experienced years of struggles, misunderstanding and things I shouldn't have had to deal with.
I don't want other people to have to go through that alone.
That's why I created the Village.
Why a Village?
I believe it takes a village to raise a community.
A village is about people coming together, looking out for each other, understanding each other and knowing that you belong.
Everyone involved in THE ADHD VILLAGE DERBYSHIRE has ADHD. We aren't standing outside looking in — we're part of the community too. We understand the good days, the difficult days, the overwhelm, the struggles and everything in between.
This Village exists to give adults with ADHD somewhere to feel seen, understood, accepted and valued — and hopefully help people avoid some of the things that many of us have had to face alone.
I created the Village because I wish something like this had been there for me.
You shouldn't have to do it alone.
Welcome to the Village.
The ADHD Village Derbyshire was founded on a simple truth: navigating life with ADHD is vastly easier when you have a community that truly gets it.
Created by individuals with lived experience of neurodiversity, our story began out of a personal need for accessible, local connection without formal hurdles. We stand for shared empathy, authentic conversations, and breaking down the isolation that so often accompanies adult ADHD.
Our Vision: To create a thriving, inclusive Derbyshire community where adults with ADHD feel understood, accepted, valued, and connected — with the support, friendships, and sense of belonging they need to thrive.
The ADHD Village Derbyshire is an adults-only community, created specifically for adults living in or around Derbyshire who:
The Village is about real people, real experiences and real connection.
You don't need to have all the answers, and you don't need to have a diagnosis to belong here. Whether you're newly diagnosed, still waiting for assessment, or simply wondering if ADHD might explain some of your experiences, there is a place for you in The Village.
The ADHD Village Derbyshire is for adults — because it's never too late to find your people.
We provide informal, relaxed avenues to connect and share space together:
Our monthly community meeting starts in October 2026 and takes place on the first Saturday of every month at:
The Church in the Peak – The Lime Tree
Lime Tree Business Park
Lime Tree Road
Matlock
Derbyshire
DE4 3EJ
7:00–7:30pm — Community Connections & Coffee
A relaxed chance to arrive, grab a coffee and connect with other people in the Village.
It's an opportunity to meet people, have a chat, make connections and start feeling part of the community. There is no pressure to talk and no expectation that you have to join in straight away.
7:30–9:00pm — The Main Village Talk
This is where we come together as a community and choose three topics that matter to us.
We take each topic one at a time.
We can write down on paper how that particular issue has affected us, giving everyone the chance to reflect on their own experiences.
We then pass around the Village mascot.
If you want to talk about what you've written or share your experience, you can.
If you don't want to talk, that's completely okay — just pass the mascot on.
There is no pressure and no judgement.
It's About Shared Experience
The ADHD Village Derbyshire is built around shared experience.
We aren't there to tell people how they should feel or what they should do. We're here because sometimes it helps to know that someone else understands what you're going through. Whether you're diagnosed, undiagnosed, waiting for answers, going through the process or simply trying to make sense of yourself, you have a place in the Village.
Everyone has a voice — whether they choose to speak, write things down, listen or simply be there. That's what the Village is for — coming together, sharing our experiences and making sure nobody has to face everything alone.
Who can join? Any adult (18+) in Derbyshire who identifies with having ADHD, self-identifies, or is seeking assessment.
How to join: Joining is completely free. Click below to request access to our active peer support group on Facebook.
What to expect: When joining, you'll be asked a few basic screening questions to protect our members' privacy and keep our space safe. Once inside, you can participate as much or as little as you feel comfortable with!
